Trelleborg Applied Technology is pleased to announce they have been appointed UK distributor of SOLIMIDE® polyimide foam insulation products and systems for Evonik Foams Inc. (United States).

Polyimide foam technology was originally developed in the 1970’s in an effort to decrease flammability, smoke generation and toxicity. The unique physical properties which were once limited to use in the US space programme are now commercially available as acoustic and thermal insulation for applications ranging from aircraft, marine and rail transportation to cryogenic, nuclear power plant and other high-temperature industrial uses.

“We look forward to working with Evonik Foams in bringing the benefits of polyimide foam technology to the UK market,” stated Jan Wilson MD of Trelleborg Applied Technology.

Based in the United States, Evonik Foams is a leader in the manufacture of lightweight, high-performance polyimide foam insulation products for defence, industrial and commercial applications worldwide.

Robert Tait, General Manager of Evonik Foams, views the new partnership as a good fit for both companies. "SOLIMIDE foams are lightweight and flexible materials that have specific advantages over traditional insulating materials, especially where fire resistance, extreme temperature or weight savings are critical," said Tait. "Our products further Trelleborg Applied Technology’s expertise in supplying high performance, innovative solutions for customers."

Trelleborg Applied Technology is an engineering polymer specialist concentrating on processing polyurethanes and synthetic rubber systems with a specific focus on the defence industry. To complement these we also supply a range of high temperature foams and filled polymers and systems. Together these are used to create a unique range of materials and engineered solutions for acoustic, fire, smoke and toxicity in the marine and aerospace markets. Our aim is to provide innovative engineering polymer solutions for ever more demanding operating environments positioning us at the forefront of our chosen markets.
