Gliders, Sailplanes and Light Aircraft
Over the last year an extensive amount of independent testing has been carried out on sailplane seating materials.
The result is two technical papers, Pressure Measurements and Comfort of Foam Safety Cushions for Confined Seating and A Simple Comparison of the Characteristics of Energy Absorbing Foams for Use in Safety Cushions in Glider Cockpit Environments, which compare the previous gliding industry standard foam for seating with our CONFOR Foam.
The overall findings state that CONFOR Foam significantly outperforms the competitor with regards to comfort and impact protection. The reports also show that:-
- 84% of pilots were more comfortable sitting on CONFOR Foam Cushions
- CONFOR is 20% - 300% better performing than competitor in impact testing
- CONFOR significantly reduces deceleration in vertical crash impacts
The tests found that a combination of 1" thick CF-47 and 1/2" thick CF-45 CONFOR Foams is the most effective seat cushion with respect to energy absorption and comfort for a glider/ light aircraft seat.
Seat Cushions are available in two standard sizes:-
- 18" x 18" x 1.5"
- 18" x 16" x 1.5"
Special orders are also available in square and rectangular sizes, of any dimension, within the full sheet size of 80" x 36" x 12"
