Paints
Microspheres are added to paints to help reduce viscosity and improve spreading characteristics. Initial testing demonstrates that incorporating hollow glass microspheres also improves the opacity of paint, requiring less pigment to obtain equivalent tint strength.
Most important for aircraft applications, low density microspheres are being developed to produce bright white and vibrant colored paints that reduce aircraft weight and thereby significantly decrease fuel costs.
